A team of police came under fire from the armed gang near Birgunj Medical College and the unidentified man was killed in retaliation.
The deceased was in his 30’s, said SP Rajendra Man Shrestha, adding that police had received a tip-off that the gang had planned to plant bombs in Adarshanagar. The same gang could be behind the recent explosion at Adarshanagar, he said.
Two other accomplices of the dead, however, managed to flee.
Police recovered a homemade pistol and two socket bombs from the clash site, Shrestha said.
Police suspect that the deceased might be an Indian national.
