Of the two allegedly involved in the rape and murder case, police arrested Saugat Byanjankar, 22, of the same area Tuesday. During the police investigation it was found that the other accused identified as Sandip Byanjankar, 21, had already died last year.According to CIB spokesperson SP Dibesh Lohani, the two accused had lured a three-year-old girl with some biscuits to a toilet of a local temple, where they raped and subsequently killed her. The girl would be usually alone at her home as her mother had already eloped with someone else and the father would be busy throughout the day selling goods on the streets. The culprits knew this, according to police.
After rape, one of the accused had killed her by squeezing the throat and left the body in the toilet pan.
Police were clueless about the murderers for a long time.
The District Court, Lalitpur has remanded him to police custody for further investigation. Police said the accused has admitted to the crime.
