Satya Narayan Agrawal, coordinator of a struggle committee formed by locals to ply pressure on the administration to investigate the case, said progress by a probe committee headed by DSP Santosh Bhattarai has been very slow. No arrest has been made in the case so far. [break]
Rabi Agrawal, son of the deceased, said they are sad as police have not been able to find any solid lead. "Instead of arresting any culprit, the police have only frightened us by calling female members of our family to the police station in the night," he said.
Flaying the lack of progress in investigations, family members reached the police station on Monday to file a written complaint against some suspects. But the police persuaded them not to file an official complaint as ´doing so would jeopardize the whole investigation process´.
With Agrawal´s death still shrouded in mystery, his supporters have continued to force all businesses, educational institutes and public transport to stay shut. Due to the general strike, even government offices look deserted, with very few people visiting there. Argawal was also Sarlahi district chairman of the Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP)-Nepal.

Meanwhile, the struggle committee on Monday submitted a memorandum to Chairman of the Interim Election Council, Khila Raj Regmi, through Sarlahi District Administration Office (DAO), urging the government to form a high-level committee to investigate the death. The struggle committee submitted the memorandum amidst mounting pressure to call off their general shutdown.
Agrawal was found dead in a field in front of an under-construction building of Sarlahi Chamber of Ccommerce and Industry on Wednesday night last week. His motorcycle was also found at the site. The body was partially submerged in water. As the 55-year-old businessman and politician from Malangawa-8 was found dead just hours before Chamber elections, family and supporters believed it was premeditated murder.
