Police arrested the main accused 21-year-old Sujan Shrestha from his relative´s house in Bargachhi of Hansposa VDC, Sunsari Monday night. Shrestha is a resident of Shukrapath, Dharan-7. [break]
She has been reported missing for the past 11 days.
Sujan admitted to the police that he and two others gang-raped the woman. But he claimed that the girl was brought back to a place where he and his accomplices found her.
"He admitted raping her, but said she was brought back and left in the place they found her," said Inspector Rajendra Bishwakarma, the chief of Dharan Area Police Office.
On February 27, the woman from Devisthan, Sunsari, had fallen off an elevation, consequently losing her consciousness. Finding her in that condition, Sujan and his two friends took her in a van.
The day after her disappearance, her relatives and locals conducted a search and eventually handed over the van´s driver Dipak Shrestha and help Mukesh Sarki to police. Both have already admitted to that they raped the woman.
To find the missing woman, police have mobilized a search team headed by Inspector Narayan Pradhan of Koshi Regional Police Office.
Police suspect that the rapists either killed her to hide their crime, or the woman committed suicide after regaining consciousness.
