Maharjan will leave for Sikkim on Thursday. Maharjan will be the first Nepali national to coach a team in foreign land. [break]
Maharjan, the MMC coach, will look after Denzong Boys as the head coach for a month as the Sikkim club is scheduled to play the I-league second division qualifier from the third week of March to second week of April. Denzong will pay Rs 120,000 to Maharjan for the month-long duty.
Maharjan is one among the very few Nepali coaches who have completed AFC B level coaching course. He is the first batch product of AFC Future Coaching Course conducted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in 2007-2009.
Maharjan claims that a month´s leave from Nepal would not hamper much for his local team, MMC. "As seven players of MMC are called in the closed camp of national team, my leave will not hamper the team," said Maharjan, thanking MMC for coordination and providing him leave for that period.
Maharjan is also one of the successful coaches for top-flight Nepali clubs. Maharjan, who started coaching career six years ago in 2006, has won six different titles for different clubs. Maharjan made debut as coach from Nabil Three Star in 2006 and had won five titles including Aaha Gold Cup, Martyrs Memorial Cup, British Gurkha Cup and Budha Subba Gold Cup twice.
Maharjan took over the coaching job of MMC in 2010 September. He had so far won only one title for MMC including Aadarsha Cup held in Lekhnath, Kaski about two months ago.
Even though he was able to take MMC into the finals of British Gurkha Cup and Aaha Gold Cup in the recent past, his former club Nabil Three Star upset him on both occasions.
Maharjan had more than a decade long career as national team player starting from 1993. He was the captain of the Nepali national team in 2003.
