KATHMANDU, Feb 7: Chairman of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Republican (MPRF-R) Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta, who is also the communications minister, on Tuesday warned of yet another Madhes movement if concerns of the Madhesi people are not addressed in the new constitution.

“We are waiting for the final verdict of the Constituent Assembly (CA). We have been preparing for yet another Madhes movement,” Gupta told media persons at his office on Tuesday. [break]

Gupta, who recently was on a Tarai visit, said he found people of the region prepared for a new movement if their concerns are not addressed by the state.

“The distance between Kathmandu and Madhes is growing wider as previous agreements have remained unimplemented,” he argued.

Gupta, who said he was speaking on behalf of other Madhesi parties, also said such a movement would be “destructive and violent”.

Gupta said the Madhesi parties have also reservations over the recent reports of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC).

“The people of Madhes are not going to accept the reports of the State Restructuring Commission (SRC),” said Gupta, adding, “Thousands of Madhesi people will sacrifice their lives but will not accept a state that does not respect their identity.” Gupta said that they would not let the state conduct either a referendum or election, as suggested by the apex court.
