KATHMANDU, April 7: The strike on the first day of the three-day general strike enforced by 30-party alliance ended from 5 pm on Monday evening. As per the scheduled program, the strike will not come into effect till 5 am tomorrow morning.
Bandh enforcers are meeting to evaluate today’s strike. Chairman of Sadbhavana Party Rajendra Mahato informed the meeting of the alliance is called for 5 pm this evening. The meeting will discuss on whether making changes in announced strike.

Earlier, a team led by Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), an umbrella organization of private sector, had requested UCPN(Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to call off the strike.

Clashes took place between the bandh enforcers and police at different parts in Kathmandu valley after the banda enforcers tried to shut down markets, educational institutions as well as the traffic forcefully.
Some bandh enforcers and four police personnel were injured in a clash after the bandh enforcers pelted stones on police vehicles at New Baneshwor and Bijuli Bazaar area.
Spokesperson at the Office of the Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent of Police Narayan Singh Khadka told that police arrested 18 persons of the 30-party Alliance from different places of Kathmandu valley till afternoon.
A large number of security personnel were deployed to curb any untoward incident from the bandh enforcers while the agitators have gathered and chanting different slogans to make the general strike a success. Likewise, passengers were stranded and compelled to reach the destinations on foot due to traffic halt following the general strike.
