Leaders to shun foreign trips

KATHMANDU, March 15: A parliamentary party meeting of CPN-UML on Thursday instructed the party leaders and lawmakers to cancel foreign trips and visits outside the Kathmandu valley except for attending events of national importance.



The party has prohibited UML leaders and lawmakers, who are members of the Constituent Assembly´s Constitutional Committee (CC), the dispute resolution subcommittee and the government´s special committee, from making foreign and domestic trips to attend events which are not of national importance.[break]



Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) has also decided not to allow party leaders and lawmakers to make foreign trips until the peace and constitution drafting process concludes.



Also, UCPN (Maoist) Standing Committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara has announced to cancel his foreign trip.



Some of the key leaders of the major political parties were scheduled to visit Switzerland to attend a function on Nepal´s statute drafting and peace process.



Mahara, Janardan Sharma, Jaypuri Gharti and Khimlal Devkota from the UCPN (Maoist), General Secretary Prakash Man Singh, Bimalendra Nidhi, Chitralekha Yadav and Arjun Narsingh KC from the NC and General Secretary Ishwar Pokharel, Pradip Gyawali and Bhim Rawal from the CPN-UML, among other leaders were scheduled to leave for Switzerland on Friday.
