Politburo member of UCPN (Maoist) and political advisor of Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Devendra Poudel said that the arrest was a sheer violation of international diplomatic norms. He also balmed that the arrest was made as a ploy to damage the bilateral relations between the two countries.
Condemning the arrest, Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala also termed the incident as a conspiracy to disband the ongoing peace process in the country.
Also speaking at the program, UML leader Pradip Gyanwali said that the incident took place due to inability of government to form a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to address cases of conflict-era human rights violations and withdrawal of the conflict era cases.
On the occasion, CPN-Maoist leader Dev Gurung and Madhesi Peoples’ Rights Forum- Nepal (MPRF-N) also expressed their concern over the arrest and termed the incident as a serious case against a sovereign nation.
