According to the participants of the meeting, lawmaker of Dalit Janajati Party Paswan and independent lawmaker Haq had demanded that the meeting take up issues of indigenous, marginalized communities, Muslim and Dalit people before resuming discussions on the report submitted by Constitutional Assembly Committee on State Restructuring and Distribution of State Power.[break]
As the meeting resumed without heeding to their demands, lawmaker Paswan had vented his ire by throwing a chair from the fourth floor of the Constituent Assembly Secretariat building where the meeting was taking place.
The chair was thrown out of the window of the meeting hall which is on the fourth floor. It crashed in the garden.
Likewise, Haq had also thrown a chair inside the meeting hall. The CC meeting was then put off for Tuesday.
The lawmaker duo participated in the meeting by standing in their respective seats apparently to draw the attention of everyone present there. The duo had chosen to throw chairs after their demand was not addressed even after an hour.
“Top leaders and big parties turned a deaf ear of our agenda on marginalized people,” Paswan told media persons. “If this continues, we will throw other lawmakers out of the window.”
CC Chairman Nilambar Acharya said he has been holding talks with party leaders to address their demands. “We are holding talks with leaders to address the issues raised,” he said. “The incident should only be taken as an act of raising voice forcefully.”
