KUKL tankers grounded, water supplies hit

KATHMANDU, June 8: Seventeen tankers of the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL), which supplied water in capital, have been grounded since the last five days after it stopped receiving fuel supplies from Sajha Petrol Pump because of inability to pay earlier dues.



The grounding of the KUKL tankers has hit the common people who relied on water KUKL for water. [break]



The KUKL supplied 80 tankers of water everyday in various locations.



KUKL Spokesperson Suresh Prasad Acharya said the newly appointed chairman does not have the authority to take financial decisions without the assent of the KUKL board of directors. However, the board has not yet accepted the resignation of former chairman.



Acharya also revealed that KUKL has not been able to hold a meeting of board of directors as the posts of two directors is vacant. KUKL has recently formed a committee to appoint directors for the vacant posts.



KUKL employees have also not received their salaries for the past two months due to indecision of the committee. There are 1100 employees at KUKL.
