KU holds convocation

BANEPA, Dec 11: Minister for Education, Dinanath Sharma has urged the doctors to stop concentrating themselves to the urban centres only.



Addressing the 17th convocation day of Kathmandu University at Chaukot of Panauti Sunday, the Education Minister also stressed on the need for extensive research to increase the efficiency of Nepali doctors, and also promote indigenous drug companies and health personnel.[break]



He urged the new graduates to work in the interest of the people living in the rural parts of the country, where skilled physician is a rare thing.



Vice-chancellor of Kathmandu University, Dr Suresh Raj Sharma said increasing community medicine was the need of the house.



Dean of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Isreal, Eran Leitersdorf said the health profession is a challenging one in medical science sector.



At the program, a total of 882 including 620 in MBBS, 104 in MD, 44 in MS, 39 in MDS, 58 in B.Sc. Nursing and 17 in Human Biology graduated. Of them 44 per cent were from outside the country including from India, Sri Lanka, the US and Fiji.



Prajjwal Ghimire, who scored 78.55 per cent in MBBS, bagged the gold medal.
