The two sides also agreed to make other appointments in the party on the basis of consensus between the two sides. A meeting of the leaders from the party establishment and the rival faction of the party held at Koirala´s residence in Maharajgunj nominated Ranjeet Karn, Dila Sangraula and Udaya SJB Rana as the presidents of the ad hoc committees of Nepal Student Union, Nepal Women´s Association and Nepal Tarun Dal respectively. Karn is a former FSU president of Pulchowk Engineering College and ex-general secretary of NSU. [break]
Likewise, Indra Bahadur Gurung, Tanka Sharma Kadel, Bhanu Sigdel and Ganesh Bahadur Thapa Magar have been nominated chiefs of the ad hoc committees of Aadibasi Janajati Sangh, Democratic Fighters Association, Nepal Farmers Association and Rastriya Magar Sangh, respectively. All these committees have been entrusted to hold general conventions of their respective organizations within six months as stipulated by the party statute.
According to Bimalendra Nidhi, who led the negotiation on behalf of Deuba, the two sides have agreed to name the members of these ad hoc committees through consensus after Deuba´s arrival in Kathmandu from western Nepal on Tuesday. President Koirala is also leaving for eastern Nepal for two days to attend the party´s function on Sunday.
The two sides agreed on the nominations following a one-to-one meeting between Koirala and Nidhi for about half-an-hour. The party establishment named the chiefs of the ad hoc committees of NSU, Farmer´s Association and Democratic Fighters Association, whereas the Deuba faction picked the chiefs of the remaining four other sister organizations.
This breakthrough in NC comes two days after a meeting between President Koirala and Deuba, who were not even on “speaking terms” after the latter resigned as the central committee member in September 2011. Deuba put in his papers after Koirala dissolved the executive committees of the party´s sister organizations.
Deuba faction had long been demanding a “package deal”, including immediate formation of the party´s parliamentary board that is responsible for picking party candidates for general election and party´s zonal chiefs to resolve differences between the two factions.
The NC president is also due to appoint chiefs of the party´s 32 various departments and work performance committee and nominate five central committee members. Deuba faction had been demanding at least four of the five remaining central committee memberships, including the post of a joint general-secretary. Only two members -- Deuba and Nidhi -- have been nominated as CWC members from the Deuba faction.
Leaders close to Koirala said the two sides have agreed to make the remaining appointments in the party on the basis of consensus. “This understanding has created an environment of consensus in the party. The party will move ahead united in the days to come,” said Nidhi.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Koirala, party Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel, general secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Sitaula and leaders Bal Bahadur KC, Dilendra Prasad Badu and Dr Minendra Rijal.
