RJM has called a general strike in the districts of eastern Nepal. Kirat Rasrtiya Mukti Morcha, Kirat Janawadi Worker´s Party and Kiran Rai Students Union have retaliated against the strike.
Although the two groups have met at several occasions, police have so far fended off any clash. Police have taken control of all lathis that the groups were carrying with them.
“Some ask to open up, some other demand to close down, we don’t know what to do,” local businessman Naresh Chaudhary said.
The weekly Haat market, scheduled for Wednesday, has been affected by the strike.
Meanwhile, the strike has not affected Khotang, Taplejung, Ilam, Bhojpur and Okhaldunga districts. There were no strike enforcers seen in Khotang, according to Bimala Rai.
Meanwhile, our correspondent from Biratnagar Ajit Tiwari reported that the strike has not affected much in Tarai area including Morang and Jhapa.
Although long-route vehicles are not plying, market, industries and educational institutions are open. According to Eastern Regional Police Officer, Biratnagar, no violence has been reported.
