KATHMANDU, Jan 19: Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) Jhala Nath Khanal has said that a majority government will be formed within the next week if formation of a consensus government is not possible during that period.

"Though our party has been advocating for the government of national consensus, other big parties are not ready to come to consensus within the deadline set by the President", said Khanal.

Claiming that special session of Parliament called by the Unified CPN (Maoist) was cancelled and the Nepali Congress withdrew the candidacy of Ram Chandra Poudel filed for the post of a new prime minister following the party´s stance and proposal, the UML Chief said discussions among the parties on the issues relating to the peace process and constitution-drafting has reached to a new height.

Inaugurating a discussion program organized by the CPN (UML) department of local development here on Tuesday, Khanal stressed that a government to be formed in the future should be able to conclude the peace process and to create atmosphere conducive to write a new constitution.

There is no possibility of the UCPN (Maoist) going to the jungle again or returning to India, he said.

Development works have been affected due to lack of formation of local bodies, he said, adding that a new government should come with an alternative to the election of local bodies and party representatives.
