Karnali people submit memo to CA chair

KATHMANDU, April 2: People from the Karnali Region, today, submitted a memorandum to Chairman of the Constituent Assembly, Subash Nembang saying the report submitted by the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) has been unfair to the Karnali people.



They said the concept of SRC report regarding naming, demarcation, and the proposed capitals of federal provinces has ignored the rights of the Karnali people. [break]



They complained that every government so far have neglected the Karnali region that is the centre of the Khas civilization, and demanded creation of Karnali Autonomous State with special rights to free it from suppression.



On the occasion CA Chairman Nembang said no common understanding has been forged regarding the development of the Karnali region and its people and expressed the commitment to forward the memorandum to the Constitutional Committee.



He said the Constituent Assembly has understood the pain suffered by the Karnali people, stressing that all should egg on the leaders of the political parties for timely constitution at a time when all the requirements to declare the new constitution were prepared.



Coordinator of the Karnali Autonomous State Struggle Committee and lawmaker Naresh Bhandari claimed the SRC report has been unscientific and blamed that the report has been brought with the view to erasing the identity of the Karnali region.
