JUMLA, Jan 6: There are no judges in the Appellate and District courts in Karnali zone currently except in Kalikot district. The Supreme Court transferred them elsewhere as mercury began to drop sharply.

Assistant Spokesperson for the Supreme Court Hemant Rawal stated that since a few years, the Apex court has been sending the judges to warmer places on assignments for a short period to escape winter keeping their age in view. [break]

“A majority of the judges are above 50,” he said. “However, the judges are required to be present at the court in case of emergency,” he added.

Acting Chief Judge of Jumla Appellate Court Khemraj Sharma, Judge Bhim Bahadur Bohara and Jumla District Court Judge Mahendra Raj Gautam -- who was looking after Mugu District Court -- have been sent on assignments to other districts. According to the Jumla Appellate court, they have been sent on assignments for a month with effect from 30 December.

Till 30 December, Judge of the Banke District Court Arjun Adhikari would be taking responsibility of Dolpa District Court as well. Similarly, another Banke District Court Judge Kavi Prasad Neupane would look after Dolpa District Court.

Meanwhile, Nepal Bar Association of the Jumla Appellate Court is concerned over the absence of judges in the courts. President of the bar, Devi Sejuwal stated that the absence of judges would affect justice delivery.
