Recipients of this fellowship will go through a one-day training period in April where they will discuss major issues relevant to Karnali, about research techniques, and sit through a writing workshop.Participants will also need to prepare their research proposal for which they will be given two to four weeks. Their research topic can be on any of the five themes—'Arid Agriculture/Agriculture in Karnali,' 'Socio-economic-ecologic Impact of Yarsa Collection,' 'Effect of Migration in a village of Karnali,' 'Place of Women in Karnali on Specific Folklore/Culture,' and 'Comparison of Rituals between Mainstream and Karnali Cultures.' According to the fellowship, each participant will be allocated a focal organization in their respective districts. The participants will be guided by an organization in the rural areas of the district they will be living and conducting their research in for the two months of the fellowship. This period is expected to help researchers understand the daily lives of the locals as well as collect and document stories.
The fellowship will end with a report and a presentation of the research findings. The report is encouraged to be published in a newspaper or a blog. Participants will be provided with accommodation and food expenses as well as travel allowance.
