The leaders of those parties speaking at a function organized by the Kailali district administration office requested the government to establish a permanent camp of Nepal Army in Tikapur, where eight security personnel and a child were killed by the Tharu protesters in August.Shyam Khatri, the in-charge of CPN-UML's Tikapur unit said" "We, the major political parties, are ready to welcome the Nepal Army for the welfare and safety of locals in Tikapu"." He further said that the security situation in Tikapur is still vulnerable, so presence of security personnel has been extremely necessary.
Speaking at the function, Rastriya Janmorcha Kailali district unit treasurer Dayaram Sanjyal claimed that the presence of Nepal Army personnel will give them a feeling of peace and security. So, they would wholeheartedly welcome army camp.
Bharat Bahadur Swar, Tikapur municipality committee chief of Nepali Congress, also said his party fully supports the idea of setting up a permanent army camp.
Following the Tikapur incident and declaration of riot-hit zone, a Nepal Army team led by Bhuwanpurna Satyal, lieutenant colonel has set up a temporary camp in Tikapur to maintain law and order. The army has also set up another temporary camp at Satti in Narayanpur VDC. The Tikapur camp oversees the Satti camp.
Apart from Nepal Army camps, there are Ugratara Armed Police Force (APF) battalion headed by an APF superintendent and an area police office headed by Nepal Police deputy superintendent in Tikapur.
Civil society leaders in Tikapur have also demanded army presence in Tikapur in view of the sensitive security situation.
According to them, lack of proper coordination between Nepal Police and Armed Police Force had resulted in the killing of security personnel on August 24, so army presence is urgent, they said.
