Journos continue protest in Dailekh

DAILEKH, Jan 13: Agitating journalists and locals continued their demonstrations on Sunday as well in protest against Prime Minister Baburam Bhattrai and Attorney General (AG) Mukti Pradhan for allegedly instructing prosecutors in the district to halt the proceedings of Dekendra Thapa murder case.



Earlier on Friday, AG Pradhan had written to the Dailekh police office and the district attorney´s office, instructing them to halt the proceedings of the case, arguing that doing so would be against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 2006.[break]



Locals have staged demonstrations since morning at the district headquarters, protesting against the move to let the murderers of journalist Thapa off the hook.



A team of journalists from the capital led by Federation of Nepal Journalists (FNJ) Chairman Shiva Gaule also participated in the demonstrations.



On the occasion, various personalities including FNJ Chairman Gaule, and Poshan KC, a former general secretary of the journalists’ umbrella body, addressed a corner assembly organized at the Devkota Chwok of the district headquarters.



Earlier, the district police office of Dailekh had arrested five Maoist cadres Jay Bahadur Shahi, of Raniban VDC-1, Bir Bahadur KC, of Baluwatar-7, and Harilal Pun, of Dwari VDC-3, apart from the Gharti Magar duo in connection with Thapa´s murder some eight years ago.
