Jhapa businessmen stages sit-in

BHADRAPUR, Dec 12: Businessmen have been staging a sit-in at the tax barrier at Kakadbhitta, the entry-point between Nepal and India from 8:00 am on Monday morning in protest of the arrest of a businessman of Jhapa.



Police had arrested Ramniwas Agrawal of Dhulabari in possession of counterfeit Indian notes of Rs. 200,000 from Sunday during a search by the Armed Police while he was entering Kakadbhitta from India. Armed Police had handed him over to the Nepal Police. [break]



Hundreds of businessmen have been sitting in the street chanting slogans closing down Kakadbhitta and Dhulabari Bazaars from early morning at the initiative of the Mechi Chamber of Commerce and Industry affecting movement of people.



Chamber Chairman Keshav Raj Pandey said he should be released along with the notes. The protest will continue unless he is released, he warned. When attempt was made to contact, SP of Jhapa, he could not be reached.
