BHAKTAPUR, Jan 6: The Janak Education Materials Center (JEMC) is planning to raise the prices of textbooks from the coming academic session.

Managing director of the center Birendra Kumar Das said the center has not raised the prices for the last 12 years while the price of paper, ink and other inputs have increased significantly. He said the center has written a letter to the Education Ministry for its approval to raise the prices.

At present, the center is selling textbooks at the rate of 18 paisa per page. He added that the center used to buy paper at Rs 55,000 per ton in the past but the price has gone up to Rs 81,000 now. The prices of ink and other inputs have also gone up in the same ratio, he claimed.

Das also said the center will lay off over 260 staff through OD system so as to prevent the center from plunging into loses.
