KATHMANDU, Nov 15: The Judicial Council has asked the Constitutional Council (CC) to appoint a new chief justice as incumbent Chief Justice Min Bahadur Rayamajhee is retiring on December 12.

A senior government official said that the Judicial Council sent a letter to the CC in this regard recently.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has directed officials at the CC to call the CC´s meeting on Tuesday to choose a new chief justice.

Given the tradition of choosing the seniormost Supreme Court Justice as the chief justice, Justice Anup Raj Sharma is likely to be named as the next chief justice.
