Japan assists infrastructure facilities for Water Disaster Risk Reduction in Chitwan

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Government of Japan has built infrastructure facilities for water disaster reduction in Madi Municipality of Chitwan district under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects schemes. Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kikkuta Yakuta handed over the facilities to Nepal amid a function on January 10.

KATHMANDU, Jan 12: The Government of Japan has built infrastructure facilities for water disaster reduction in Madi Municipality of Chitwan district under the Grant Assistance for Japanese NGO Projects schemes. Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Kikkuta Yakuta handed over the facilities to Nepal amid a function on January 10.



According to a press statement issued by the Embassy of Japan in Nepal, the project is being implemented by Japanese NGO Shapla Neer. The project aims at reducing water-induced disaster risks in Chitwan based on the ‘one-river one-community’ concept and supports strengthening disaster resilience capacity of the local government and communities.

On the occasion, Ambassador Yutaka congratulated everyone involved in the project. He praised the efforts of all who worked with Shapla Neer to complete the project. He also expressed his hope that this structure and community organization will become an asset in disaster prevention and will function to protect the lives and property in the event of an emergency.
