CHITWAN, Dec 9: Despite political stability and discouraging investment environment in the country, industrialists in the district have kicked off a campaign to improve investment climate in districts in central Nepal.

They are preparing to promote the ´Invest Mid Nepal´ campaign in the upcoming Chitwan Festival, which is being held next month, to lure investment from both local as well as foreign investors.[break]

“We are also holding discussions with representatives of different donor agencies to make the campaign effective," Dr Til Chandra Bhattarai, president of Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), told Republica.

Bhattarai further added that the main objective of the Chitwan Festival will be to make Invest Mid Nepal a platform to attract new investment. “Invest Mid Nepal is a platform to encourage domestic as well as foreign investors to make investment in different areas in the region as per the public-private partnership (PPP) model," said Bhattarai.

Industrialists in the region are mainly looking for investment in sectors like education, health, agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development.

"We have already prepared plans for the next 20 years," Bhattarai said. "Experts and businessmen from each sector have started to frame different programs to bring in new investment."

According to Bhattarai, different committees have been formed in central, regional and district level to make necessary preparations for Invest Mid Nepal campaign.

"We have been receiving support from Investment Board of Nepal (IBN), Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Non-Resident Nepali (NRN) to design programs," Bhattarai said.

Entrepreneurs in Chitwan are hopeful that the Invest Mid Nepal campaign would be a stepping stone toward improving investment climate in the country. "We are hopeful that the campaign will be instrumental in improving investment climate in the country,” said Uttam Lal Chuke, former president of CCCI. "We have invited experts and investors from countries like Japan, China and India to share their experience in the festival."

Moreover, Indian, Chinese and Japanese ambassadors to Nepal will also participate in the program to discuss the prospects of investing in Nepal along with investors from their respective countries.
