Infection on Dr KC's wrist; hunger-strike end due at 3 pm

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: Dr Govinda KC, who was due to end his fast-onto-death strike at 3 pm Sunday, has been diagnosed with an infection at cannula-site on his wrist.



According to Dr Bidhya Singh Shah who has been attending Dr KC, the part of his wrist from where saline is being administrated has been infected.

“It is necessary to shift him to Intensive Care Unit at the soonest,” Dr Shah said, adding, “The situation will get worse if the infection spreads to other parts of his body.”


Despite signing an 11-point deal with the government on late Saturday night, Dr KC is yet to end his hunger strike, demanding reforms in health-education sector, which has entered fourteenth day on Sunday.

His aide Suman Acharya said Dr KC will end fast-unto-death at 3 pm today afternoon, adding he will be shifted to the ICU soon after that.   


Chief Secretary Som Lal Subedi, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Govinda Raj Pokhrel and Dr KC had signed the agreement at around 11.30 pm Saturday.


Among the 11-point agreement, formation of a Health Profession Education Commission is one of the clauses.
