SURUNGA, Jhapa, Nov 6: An Indian national cheated and fled from the scene after taking over one million rupee from a jewelry shop in Surunga of Jhapa district on Friday.

Arun Bhatiya, 30, from Rampur, India, took Rs 1.3 million giving the shop owner an alloy saying it was 55 tola gold, said Tika Ram Baral, proprietor of Baral Jewelry House.

Baral said he believed Bhatiya and gave him the money, as the latter was a wholesaler of goats in the district. Baral said he became aware of being cheated after testing the metal two hours later. He said the inner part of the metal was silver while the liquid metal mercury was applied externally.
