Dr Quraishi during his meeting with Upreti also assured that India was ready to support EC for enhancement of electoral management and introduction of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) to ensure free and fair elections. The EC is mulling to introduce EVM after five democratic elections in Nepal.
Upreti had urged Dr Quraishi to extend support for organizational and technical development, and modernization of electoral management in the country.
In response, Dr Quraishi assured that the Election Commission of India is ready to exchange its 61 years-long experiences in the field and assist for organizational development, capacity building as well as electoral management.
According to Trital, the MoU has formalized cooperation between the election commissions of the two countries. He said the MoU will increase cooperation between the election commissions of Nepal and India.
Quraishi is on the three-day visit to Nepal on the invitation of Upreti since Monday.
