KATHMANDU, Jan 9: CPN-Maoist Chairman Mohan Baidya admired China for respecting Nepal’s sovereignty while accused India of setting an ´evil eye´ on it.
Addressing the opening session of its seventh general convention at Khulla Manch in the capital on Wednesday, the chairman demanded that India scrap ‘unequal’ bilateral treaties that are threat to Nepal’s sovereignty. “We are in favor of fresh treaties with India, acceptable to both,” Baidya said. The chairman also made it clear that his party will never compromise with American imperialism and Indian expansionism.
Baidya declared that the fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) election were not possible in present context and blamed big four parties for the pushing the country into present political scenario. “There are no differences among the four parties but government leadership,” he said.
Despite uprooting monarchy and declaring the state as secular, the people’s aspirations are yet to be fulfilled, the chairman said.
This is the party´s first convention following its split from UCPN (Maoist) on June 18, 2012.
Earlier today, cadres of CPN-Maoist took out rallies from different parts of the Kathmandu valley before converging to the gathering at Khula Mancha.
Around 2,000 people, including 1,200 representatives, 400 observers, 100 cultural artistes and 300 volunteers, are said to be participating in the convention.
The closed session of the convention is scheduled to begin on Thursday at Nepal Academy. The five-day convention will conclude January 13.
