He said the government did not drag UNMIN into controversy on its own, rather "India has asked the government to speak against UNMIN." [break]
Addressing a press conference in Dang, Mahara added that it is not the wish of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government to protest the UNMIN. "It is the wish of India to remove UNMIN from Nepal," he said.
Mahara alleged that India was doing so as it could get a chance to interfere in Nepal´s peace process if the UNMIN made an early exit. He said India did not want UNMIN´s presence in Nepal right from the beginning.
Mahara said though UNMIN is to be sent back only after the peace process is concluded, some ministers are conspiring to send it before the peace process is brought to a logical end. "It is unfortunate to drag UNMIN into controversy," he argued. "It is against the peace process."
Mahara also made it clear that the Maoists would not tolerate this kind of attitude of the government against the UNMIN.
Mahara was of the opinion that the government was trying to delay the integration process by demanding fresh details of the already verified Maoist combatants. He argued that all details of the Maoist combatants are at the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction.
Commenting on a separate issue, Mahara claimed that Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML themselves will topple the government. He said the Maoists should not make any initiative to collapse the government as the coalition partners themselves have started engaging in political wrangling.
