The decision was taken at the Joint Standing Technical Committee (JSTC) meeting between Nepal and India on Wednesday.
The project managers of Pancheshwar Multi-Purpose Project will meet in Faridabad to prepare a detailed work plan in this regard, Dilli Bahadur Singh, the project in-charge of Pancheshwar, told myrepublica.com. [break]
"The funding for the proposed modalities will be borne by the government of India," Singh said.
In the two-day JSTC meeting which concluded on Wednesday, India also agreed to supply water to Chandani Dodhara, a Nepali village across Mahakali River. India will supply water from a point 2.5 mile from Sarada barrage, Madhu Sudan Poudel, joint secretary at the Ministry of Irrigation informed. He said that a joint-technical team will pay a field visit to the spot soon.
As per the Mahakali Treaty, India has to supply water to this village. This was a major point of dispute between the two countries.
Poudel also said that India is preparing to build the much-delayed canal on its side at Tanakpur.
However, the report for developing a physical model regarding Koshi breach closure was not submitted by the Indian side as agreed during the JCWR (Joint-Committee on Water Resources) meeting held in Pokhara in February. Also, some 26 unresolved issues related to inundation have not been addressed in the current JSTC.
The current meeting was to deliberate on the report of Standing Committee on Inundation Problem (SCIP) in this regard. The meeting remained silent even on update work that was to be taken up by the Joint Committee on Koshi and Gandak.
Similarly, a review of work undertaken by Standing Committee on Flood Forecasting, Joint Committee on Flood Management, High Level Technical Committee (HLTC) and Sub-committee on Embankment Construction (SCEC) was said to be taken up by the JSTC in this meeting. Nothing has been said on the progress work of these committees.
