DOLAKHA, Dec 25: Coming down heavily on Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal´s recent remarks, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday said the government has not treated any of the neighboring countries as a ´master´ or ´servant´. [break]

Prime Minister Nepal said the government instead wants to maintain relationship with India and China on an equal footing. “We want to maintain good relationship with both the neighboring countries,” he said.

Addressing a rally in Kathmandu, Maoist Chairman Dahal had claimed that the coalition partners had failed to resolve the current deadlock as they were dancing to the tune of Indian government. Dahal had said that his party was ready to hold direct talks with the India to resolve the deadlock.

In his inaugural speech at the seventh district convention of the CPN-UML in Dolakha, Prime Minister Nepal stressed on the need to denounce the Maoists´ tendency to invite foreign interference in Nepal´s internal affairs. “Nepalis are capable of solving their problems on their own,” he added.

The prime minister maintained that a political party needs a proper policy and strategy to attract people. He claimed that hundreds of Maoists cadres were joining the UML in Maoists strongholds like Rukum and Rolpa due to wrong policy of the Maoists.

Maoist cadres had greeted the prime minister with black flags soon after he began addressing the mass. “What will happen if the cadres of Nepali Congress and the UML also start greeting the Maoist leaders with black flags?” asked the visibly enraged prime minister.

The prime minister reached Dolakha after inaugurating Rumjatar fair in Okhaldhunga. Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala, Minister for Constituent Assembly and Federal Affairs Dr Minendra Rijal and Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sarat Singh Bhandari, who accompanied the prime minister, had stayed in District Administration Office, till the prime minister delivered his speech.

A brief clash had ensued after the police tried to prevent Young Communist League (YCL) cadres from showing black flags to the prime minister and other ministers.
