Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board that manages wholesale market at Kalimati said the wholesale prices of big tomatoes and small tomatoes rose to Rs 30 and Rs 38 per kg from Rs 20 and Rs 24 per kg respectively over the period. [break]
Similarly, prices of carrots, cauliflower and green peas also increased to Rs 28, Rs 34 and Rs 50 per kg from Rs 18, Rs 30 and Rs 30 per kg respectively. Chinese garlic touched the new high of Rs 150 per kg, according to the board.
Traders blamed inadequate supplies in the market as the reason behind rise in vegetables and fruits prices over the period.
Prices of some vegetables like dry onion, cabbage, mushroom, asparagus and broccoli have remained unchanged. Dry onion and cabbage are selling for Rs 18 and Rs 5 per kg respectively. Mushroom and asparagus are prices Rs 250 per kg each, while broccoli is selling for Rs 60 per kg.
However, prices of some vegetables like potatoes, French bean and bitter gourd went down in the market, thanks to improved supplies of these vegetables in the market. Prices of red potatoes and white potatoes marginally declined to Rs 13 and Rs 10 per kg from Rs 14 and Rs 11 per kg respectively recorded two weeks ago.
French bean, cucumber and bitter gourd are selling for Rs 24, Rs 16 and Rs 35 per kg respectively, down from Rs 52, Rs 20 and Rs 42 per kg respectively recorded two weeks back.
Prices of some fruits have increased marginally in the market. Apple, orange and water melon are selling for Rs 65, Rs 70 per kg and Rs 15 per kg respectively. However, grape and banana are selling cheaper at Rs 85 per kg and Rs 45 per dozen respectively.
