Impunity rife in Madhes: Report

JANAKPURDHAM, Feb 21: The growing impunity in the Madhes has resulted in a series of human rights violation in the region.



The public have been terrorized in various districts in the Madhes due to the acts of threats abductions, looting and extortions perpetrated by different criminal groups.[break]



Impunity has flourished in the region as even the investigations into such incidents carried out with the involvement of the security persons were not fair, states a report prepared by the Human Rights Network.



The report states that as many as 133 people were killed in various extra-judicial incidents during Poush 17, 2064 BS to Poush 17, 2067.



It reports that during the period, a total of 114 people were murdered in Saptari, 107 in Siraha, 173 in Dhanusha, 85 in Mahottari, 103 in Sarlahi, 102 in Rautahat, 104 in Bara, and 65 in Parsa.



Similarly, the report says more than 60 incidents of bomb explosions were reported in the districts. These bomb attacks targeted the offices of the different political parties, government offices, and public places, among others.
