Human Rights consultation seminar

BIRATNAGAR, March 8: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) is to prepare regional strategic plan for 2011-2013.



In this connection, the NHRC organized a strategic plan formulation consultation workshop here on March 7 with the participation of various organizations and the stakeholders.[break]



The objective of the workshop is to make the works of the commission effective in a new manner.



At the workshop the status of the implementation of the NHRC strategic plan 2008-2010 was also assessed.



The participants suggested increasing the human resources at the commission, equal treatment and equality should be maintained with the people of the sexual minorities, defining the human rights in the context of Nepal, paying attention to reducing the environmental degradation, and including human rights education in the school and college curricula for raising human rights awareness.



On the occasion, Chairman of NHRC Kedar Nath Upadhyaya said that the works of the commission have not been able to take momentum due to the political instability and uncertainty in the country.
