TU senate meeting postponed, next meeting undecided
KATHMANDU, April 11: Meeting of the Legislature-Parliament scheduled Saturday was postponed till Monday through notice after major parties in the parliament could come into agreement to run it. Upon the request of the ruling Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), other parties agreed to postpone the meeting through notice. [break]
“The ruling parties-Maoists and UML—could not reach an understanding to run the House so the Maoists wanted to postpone the meeting,” said Laxman Ghimire, chief whip of main opposition, Nepali Congress. “We were in favor of running the House and putting our views but later accepted their request.”
The meeting has been postponed for sixth time without entering into formal agenda as CPN-UML demanded immediate action against murderer of its cadre Prachanda Thaiba, and main opposition Nepali Congress backed it.
The Constituent Assembly meeting adjourned till another notification on January 18 has been called for Monday. The meeting was adjourned as CA members were to go tovillages to collect public opinion on the future constitution. All the 40 committees deployed for opinion collection have returned to capital and submitted their report to CA chair. The report will be presented at the meeting before thematic committees start preparing initial draft of the constitution.
