The committee was announced at parliament meeting Monday a month after the CA term extension. Leaders had proposed forming the monitoring body immediately after the parliament meeting endorsed the five-point deal on the same day.[break]
The parties on Monday recommended names of their representatives for the monitoring committee.
The members of the committee are Posta Bahadur Bogati, Giriraj Mani Pokharel, Pampha Bhusal and Hisila Yami from the UCPN (Maoist); Laxman Ghimire, Bimalendra Nidhi and Kamala Thapa from the Nepali Congress; and Bhim Acharya and Radha Gyawali from the CPN-UML.
Similarly, Ramjanam Chaudhary, Aatmaram Prasad Sah and Sarita Giri have been recommended from the Madhes-based parties while Pari Thapa, Pratibha Rana, and Prem Bahadur Singh represent the small political parties in the committee. Deputy Speaker Purna Kumari Subedi is the deputy chair of the committee.
According to a member, the committee will start its work immediately and its term has been fixed until August 31 when the extended three-month tenure of the CA expires. "It can summon leaders and hold discussions on effectively implementing the five-point deal as and when needed," said Speaker Nembang.
When asked about the delayed formation of the body, Nembang said the committee should work all out to compensate for lost time.
