KATHMANDU, Sept 15: The parliament on Wednesday endorsed a new bill on the high-powered Reconstruction Authority.  Minister of Law, Justice, Constituent Assembly and Parliamentary Affairs Narahari Acharya on Tuesday had tabled the bill.

The bill has replaced the ordinance which was introduced to set up the Authority and eventually reactivate the Authority to carry out reconstruction works in the earthquake-hit districts.

Just as the authority began the tasks of reconstruction in the aftermath of the April 25 earthquake, it had become inactive as the ordinance issued to set up the Authority expired due to the government's failure to replace it with a bill.

The bill could not be tabled in the parliament earlier as lawmakers of UCPN Maoist demanded revision on some of its provisions. After the government revised the bill and added a provision that a committee comprising three experts will be formed under chief executive officer of the Authority, the bill was finally tabled on Tuesday.
