Shyam Lal Kakshpati of Riverside Spring Resort and Abhishek Shrestha of Island Jungle Resort are likely to fulfill two seats representing resorts.

For the two posts under three-star hotel category, three nominees have filed their names including Vishal Kumar of Hotel Vaishali, Ram Avatar Goyal of Grande Hotel and Ajay Ratna Sthaphit of New Hotel Crystal. The other nominees include Rakesh Das Shrestha of Hotel Manaslu and Shreedhar Acharya of Greenwich hotel from the two-star hotels category. Likewise, Amar Man Shakya of Amar Hotel and Chhiten Norkel of Hotel Garuda have filed their nominations from one-star hotels category.

Nominees from non-star hotels include Binod Kharel from Red Planet Guesthouse and Ghanendra Bahadur Shrestha of Choice Hotel. From REHAN, president of Chitwan Chapter Ghanashyam Shrestha, president of Biratngar Chapter Rajan Shrestha, and president of Pokhara Chapter Biplav Paudle have filed their nominations.

Executive Director of HAN Madhav Om Shrestha said, “The nominations till Wednesday show there will be an election in the category of regional hotel and three-star hotel categories.” He further said the election will take place only if attempts for unanimous selection fails.

However, hoteliers said that there is a strong chance of a tough competition between first vice-president B.K and second vice-president Ajay Ratna Sthaphit as both are eyeing the post of president.

HAN is represented by 286 member hotels across the nation. General members have a right to elect the executive committee of 18 members and the elected body will nominate for the post of remaining office-bearers.

Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai will inaugurate the AGM on Friday. The program will also feature an interaction on “Tourism Development for Investment and Employment”, where Radhesh Pant, Chairman of Nepal Investment Board, is the keynote speaker.

Established in 1996, HAN is working to promote high quality standards and growth of hotel industry in Nepal.
