Nepal has won three silver and nine bronze medals in all editions of SAG wrestling, which was not included in the 5th SAG though.
Among the five Nepali wrestlers competing in SAG wrestling this time around, Mukhtar Alam (66 kg), Bunnilal Yadav (74 kg) and Prahlad Yadav (84 kg) had participated in the previous editions of SAG while it will be the debut experience in SAG for Subas Yadav (60 kg) and Satendra Kumar Yadav (120 kg). Bunnilal had won a bronze in the 10th SAG held in Colombo in 2006.
The wrestlers, who are being trained for two hours a day in the morning and two hours in the evening daily at the Dasharath Stadium, are confident that they won´t return empty handed and are optimistic of creating history by winning the first ever gold in the history of Nepali wrestling.
Chief coach Bidya Sagar Pokharel, coach Brahmadev Prasad Yadav and Mongolian coach Arsoo Munkbat are looking after the team.
"Despite tough opponents, we are hopeful of a good show as we have been undergoing special training for the last four months," stated the chief coach and general secretary of Nepal Wrestling Association.
India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will be tough opponents for Nepal. India and Pakistan are considered as the wrestling powerhouses in the subcontinent. However, Pokharel expects that Nepal could win gold if the tie-sheet draw favors the team.
