The infection rate has increased in the district this year compared to the last when people working in foreign countries do not remain alert on HIV infection, according to Programme Coordinator of District Development Committee, Morang AIDS Coordination Chapter, Jhamak Bhattarai.
He informed the situation of HIV/AIDS infection is found to be terrible in the district.
Altogether 977 people including 679 men and 298 women are found to be living with HIV/AIDS in Morang according to the data maintained from 2047 to 2068 BS, informed the District AIDS Coordination Committee.
Of the infected people, 193 are house wives, 30 sex workers, 46 children and 241 drug abusers, the Committee further informed.
The District Development Committee, Morang has come up with HIV infection testing in 64 VDCs of the district. However, people do not often feel comfortable to visit counseling centres for HIV test and consultations.
