BIRGUNJ, April 14: The East-West Highway section obstructed by local squatters in Simara has opened from 6 p.m. Tuesday after an agreement between the protesters and the local administration. The agitating squatters had obstructed the highway demanding compensation for the family of three persons including two children killed by a truck on Sunday night.

A meeting between Chief District Officer of Bara, Kailash Nath Kharel, Constituent Assembly member representing Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) Jaya Ram Dahal and representatives of the agitating squatters signed a five-point deal to open the highway.

Among other things, the local administration in the agreement has said it will take initiative for declaring the killed persons as martyrs, provide Rs 100,000 as immediate relief to the victims’ families and provide free of cost treatment to those injured.
