Three separate petitions were filed in the SC against Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral’s decision to amend the case. The amendment had instructed district public prosecutors in Kathmandu, Kaski, Parsa, and Rupandehi to proceed only with the cooperative fraud charge, removing organized crime and asset laundering allegations, which sparked the legal dispute.
On January 14, Attorney General Bhandari had directed the relevant district public prosecutors to pursue the cooperative fraud case exclusively against Lamichhane.
