HAN, NATO condemn banda

KATHMANDU, May 21: Hotel Association of Nepal (HAN) and Nepal Association of Tour Operators (NAT) have requested all concerned not to organize bandas and shutdowns.



Different organizations have announced series of banda from Sunday. [break]



Issuing a press statement on Friday, HAN said banda and shutdown would hit tourism sector severely.



"We urge the banda organizers not to hold such activities during Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011,” the statement added. Meanwhile, NATO has expressed serious concerns over bandas and shutdowns.



"It is sad to note that many tour booking have either been cancelled or postponed due to bandas and other forms of strike," a statement issued by NATO said.



NATO has urged political parties, their sister organizations and indigenous and ethnic groupss not to hold any strikes or bandas keeping in mind its negative impact on tourism sector.
