Gupta pledges to bring special laws to control social crimes

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Minister for Information and Communications Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta has said that special laws should be brought to control social crimes.



Speaking at a press meet on Wednesday in the Ministry, Gupta said press sector and journalists were tortured by the goons harbored by the political parties. [break]



Minister Gupta said existing laws were insufficient to control the social criminal activities and stressed for working together by joining hands with the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to draft such laws.



He added attention will be paid to guarantee working environment for journalists and develop physical infrastructure of the FNJ.



The Information and Communication Minister said that the government has done nothing despite many promises prior its formation.



Gupta also pledged not to meddle in political appointments made by the previous government in different bodies under the Ministry.



Minister Gupta said he has directed the officials of the Ministry to provide Rs 10 million for the building construction of the FNJ.
