Greenland defeated Navajeevan 37-19 in the opening match played at the National Sports Council covered hall. Navajeevan took a 6-4 lead in the first quarter but Greenland bounced back to dominate the remaining three quarters with the scores of 12-2, 7-5 and 14-6 respectively. [break]Shankar Thapa topscored for the winning side with 14 points.
In another match of the boys´ section, Wilson thrashed Pushpasadan 46-24 with 16 points from Dhiren Magar. Wilson dominated the first three quarters with the scores of 10-2, 16-6, 12-5 respectively. Pushpasadan scored 11 points in the last quarter against Wilson´s eight but it was not enough to alter the result.
Meanwhile, Trungram International Academy (TIA), Pennwood, Chandbagh and Angels´ Heart won their respective matches in the girls´ section of the tournament.
TIA thumped Brihaspati 24-4 as Akriti Gurung scored 18 points for the winning side. Riding on 14 points from Alina Gurung, Pennwood thrashed Nepal-Japan 32-6.
Chandbagh beat BST 10-2 in a low-scoring match while Angels´ Heart edged past Bhadrakali 24-15. Bishnu Dagami scored 10 points for Angels´ Heart.
Altogether 15 teams have qualified for the final round of boys´ section while 24 teams are participating in the girls´ section of the tournament organized by Nepal Basketball Association (NeBA). The tournament, which was inaugurated by former Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, will conclude on February 27.
