Govt to strike deal with UDMF on Sunday

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: A meeting of the three major parties and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) held in Baluwatar has decided to forge an agreement prior to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's official visit to India. The meeting focused on how to resolve the delineation of the provinces.

The meeting has forged an agreement to form a political mechanism with terms of reference (TOR) to suggest a solution for the delineation of the provinces.

The taskforce of the three major partiers including the top leaders are holding a meeting at 3 pm today to dwell on the TOR of the political mechanism as per the demand of the Madhesi parties.

The UDMF has already agreed to assign the political mechanism to come up with a detailed report on delineation of provinces in three months after being endorsed through the House.


Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has been urging the taskforce members including the top leaders of the Madhesi parties to be present at the meeting with maximum flexibility so as to forge consensus prior to his forthcoming India visit.

PM Oli is leaving for India on a five-day visit starting February 19 at the official invitation of the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, Oli has intensified meetings with the political parties for deal with the agitating Madhesi parties in hopes of sending positive vibes to the international community.

As part of the preparation, Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel has already visited India to create conducive environment for Oli's imminent visit.
