Govt to bring ordinance to control organized crime: PM

BIRATNAGAR, Feb 14: Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has said the government is working on bringing in an ordinance to curb criminal activities that put serious threat in business community.



"The government is preparing an ordinance to control organized crime in the country," Bhattarai said here after meeting the family of Ganga Bishan Rathi, who was kidnapped and killed in India a couple of week ago.[break]



The business community cannot work with fear, the PM said, adding "the government is serious about the situation that is rampant in the country."



He further said the laws and regulations in the country were weak. "The new ordinance the government is working on to bring will keep the business community in a secure zone," the PM said.



Businessmen requested PM Bhattarai to take strong actions against the guilty. "We have been living in fear after the kidnapping and killing of Rathi," Abhinash Bohara, president of the Morang Merchants´ Association complained to the PM.



Responding to Bohara, PM Bhattarai said he would use diplomatic channels to bring the guilty to book. "The government is determined to provide security to the business community."



However, PM Bhattarai didn´t divulged details about the ordinance that is underway and when would it be actually brought.
