KATHMANDU, April 25: The government has approved the resignation tendered by vice-chairman and three other members of the National Planning Commission (NPC).

A cabinet meeting held in Singh Durbar on Thursday approved the resignation of NPC Vice-chairman Dipendra Bahadur Chhetri and members Shiva Kumar Rai, Janak Raj Shah and Abdur Rahim Nikarani. They had tendered their resignation last Monday.[break]

They had resigned, though after much reluctance, following the decision of the High Level Political Committee to scrap all political appointments made by the erstwhile Baburam Bhattarai-led government.

The Baburam Bhattarai government had earlier appointed former Nepal Rastra Bank governor Chhetri as the NPC vice-chairman.

According to Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel, who is also the government´s spokesperson, the cabinet meeting also appointed Ram Hari Lamichhane as member secretary of Council of Technical Education and Vocational Training.
