KATHMANDU, Dec. 12: The government has launched the multi-stakeholder forestry program in a bid to improve livelihoods and resilience of the poor and disadvantaged people in Nepal by maximizing the contribution of the country´s forestry sector.

The program for next ten years would be implemented in two distinct phases- an initial transition phase (2012- 2015) and subsequent full implementation phase from 2016 to 2021.

For the program, various international agencies as Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation of Swiss Government, Finnish government, and UK´s Department for International Development have provided financial assistance.

The total fund by the donors is 150 million US dollars.

The programme is expected to reach up to 61 districts, including 23 full-fledged implementation districts being supported in transition phase. The beneficiaries of the programme are the rural communities, especially the poor and disadvantaged households, and those most vulnerable to the climate change.
